Is food insecurity a problem in the Napa Valley?

Food insecurity is defined as “being without reliable access to sufficient affordable, nutritious food.”

Overall, more than 8,000 families in Napa County experience food insecurity.

The 2018 Napa County Emergency Food Systems Study conducted a survey of 351 people that were either already using or eligible for but not currently using local emergency food services.

The survey found that about three out of four (73%) people in Napa County receiving or in need of food assistance are still at risk of going hungry.

When asked what would help them be able to eat what they want, the most common response was “more money”.
