Napa Farmers Market Opens Saturday, April 7th

Popular market offers several new improvements for shoppers

Napa, CA (March 14, 2018) — Responding to demand, the lively Napa Farmers Market opening day is earlier than ever, on Saturday, April 7th. But that’s not the only change for the market, located in South Napa Century Center, near the Cinemark Theater and In-Shape Fitness Center. The board of directors is making several adjustments or additions to make the market even more accessible, more exciting and more fun including, a shift in hours, the addition of live music and several new vendors and educational programs.

New Hours
This season, Napa Farmers Market will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Saturday. “Our location provides plenty of parking and convenient access from the major travel arteries in and out of Napa, but our previous operating hours were not as convenient for shoppers,” said David Layland, President of Napa Farmers Market’s Board of Directors. “By closing later, we hope to become a popular lunch hour destination, especially for workers in the southern part of the city and county where there are fewer options.”

As a bonus, the first 100 shoppers to visit on opening day, Saturday, April 7th, will receive a complimentary market shopping bag.

99.3 FM “The Vine” Brings Live Music Back to the Market
Toes will be tapping this year as the KVYN Music Stage will feature performances by local musicians during each Napa Farmers Market. “Our shoppers also told us they enjoyed and missed hearing live music,” said Layland. “We are thrilled to find a fantastic local partner in Will and Julissa Marcencia of Wine Down Media. The Marcencias will be moving the KVYN/KVON broadcasting studios to the Century Center later this year, so the partnership was a natural fit.”

The April 7th opening day performer will be Wheeler & Coutch. Wheeler & Coutch is an acoustic duo featuring Brian Coutch on lead vocals and guitar, and John Wheeler on guitar and harmony vocals. Known for velvety smooth vocal harmonies full of life, they will be playing a collection of favorites and original material. Coutch is also known as the lead vocalist and guitar player from the Mister Completely Band. Wheeler previously toured with Dick Dale and the DelTones and is currently the front man for Napa’s own Guitarzilla.

New Vendors
While most of the beloved veteran vendors are returning, the market is excited to announce several new additions. New certified producers will include the Esquivel Organic Farm (beets, brussel sprouts, cabbage and other vegetables); Jewel Date Company (multiple varieties of organic dates); Golden Rows Gardens (heirloom flowers); and the Tug McGraw Foundation (greens, flowers and eggs).

New specialty-food vendors include Cocina Milonga (Argentinian empanadas, pastries); Mami’s Crunch (gluten-free and nutritious vegan food products); Porchetta (Italian roast pork, seasonal lasagna); Rosa’s Portuguese Bakery (pastries including Portuguese sweetbread, strudels and pies); Royal Artisan Breads (organic breads); The Fruit Tree (freshly made green juice); The Upper Crust Baking Company (sliced sandwich breads, challah, tortillas) and Valley Pretzel (artisan soft pretzels).

Opening-day shoppers can expect to find oranges, asparagus, radishes, kale, mixed greens, mushrooms, cut flowers, nursery stock, beets, potatoes, onions, nuts, eggs, honey, grass-fed beef and poultry.

Expanded Education for Children & Adults
The first in a new weekly Youth Education Program kicks off on opening day at 10:30 a.m. “Krazy About Kale” will look at different ways to include this superfood in easy, delicious recipes. Each week at the same time, the market will continue to offer a fun, interactive, nutrition-education activity promoting healthy choices.

Also, Napa Farmers Market is happy to kick off its weekly guest chef cooking series on opening day with Chef Greg Cole, founder of Cole’s Chop House and Celadon in historic downtown Napa and a market board member. Cole will be preparing Chilled Farmers Market Asparagus with homemade Cara Cara Orange Mayonnaise. Napa Valley is a hub of culinary innovation and talent, so look for more exciting chef demos in the weeks to come.
