FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Napa, CA (October 8, 2018) — The community is invited to celebrate Food Days at the Napa Farmers Market on Saturday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the South Napa Century Center, 195 Gasser Drive in Napa. The 2018 Food Days theme is “Feeding Napa” and both days will feature a resource fair, fresh food drive, games, raffles and more.
“At every market, a wide variety of donated fresh fruits and vegetables are collected, distributed to and put to good use by local organizations, like the Napa Food Bank,” said Napa Farmers Market Board President David Layland. “We’re excited to host fun and engaging Food Days activities for people of all ages. One of our goals is to encourage people to come to the market and buy a little extra produce for our neighbors in need.”
At the resource fairs, local organizations will share stories of how their services support the food system in our community, including:
• Abode Services
• Healthy Cooking with Kids (Saturday only)
• Napa County Health & Human Services CalFresh Program
• Napa County Health & Human Services WIC Program (Tuesday only)
• Napa Valley Can Do (Saturday only)
• Napa Valley Unified School District School Lunch Program (Tuesday only)
• NEWS Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Services
• The School Garden Doctor (Tuesday only)
• UC Master Gardeners (Tuesday only)
• Waste Not Napa Valley
On Saturday, October 20, the market will host two chef demonstrations at 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. During the 10 a.m. demo, Chef Kristine Schug will complete a “Market Meal Challenge” and cook a healthy meal on site with fresh ingredients just purchased from our vendors. During the 10:45 a.m. demo, Chef Israel Sanchez will conduct the first ever bilingual cooking demo at the market.
On Tuesday, October 23, the market welcomes school field trips where students will learn where fruits and vegetables come from and how produce donations are used by local organizations to help the community eat healthier. For more information on how to schedule a school field trip visit www.napafarmersmarket.org/fooddayfieldtrip.
As always, Napa Farmers Market accepts WIC and Senior Nutrition Benefit program checks. CalFresh participants are invited to come to the Information Booth, swipe their EBT card and receive double benefits to purchase fresh food.
