THE FARMERS MARKET IS FOR EVERYONE

CalFresh/EBT

CalFresh ProgramThe Napa Farmers’ Market welcomes food stamp households to shop at our market. The CalFresh Program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), provides benefits to those families in need through the Golden State Advantage card, which is used like a debit card. The Napa Farmers’ Market processes EBT transactions at its information booth, debiting the card in exchange for $1 tokens that shoppers can use at vendor stalls.

To help fill the gap and get more farm-direct produce into the hands of our low-income neighbors, the Napa Farmers’ Market has a token-matching program for all SNAP participants that provides SNAP shoppers with a dollar-for-dollar match to spend with market vendors. By making their benefit dollars go farther, the program encourages SNAP beneficiaries to frequent the Farmers’ Market to enjoy the best local food and support local farmers.

Eligible items for purchase include fruits; vegetables; meats, fish, and poultry; dairy products; breads and cereals; and seeds and plants that produce food. Hot foods cannot be purchased using Food Stamp benefits.

WIC

California WICThe Napa Farmers’ Market welcomes WIC (Women, Infants, Children supplemental nutrition program) at our market. WIC is a federally funded health and nutrition program for women, infants and children. It helps families by providing checks for buying healthy supplemental foods from WIC-authorized vendors. Participants are pregnant women, new mothers, infants or children under age 5, and must meet income guidelines. WIC checks can be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh edible herbs. They cannot be used to purchase non-produce foods including honey, nuts, eggs, baked goods, flowers or dried fruit. WIC checks can be given directly to participating farmers when purchasing produce.
